Baby alpaca is an exceptional natural fibre that, with proper care, will retain its softness and beauty for decades. Appropriate care allows your pieces to stand the test of time without losing their lustre.

Contrary to popular belief, caring for baby alpaca is straightforward. Its natural anti-odour and stain-resistant properties actually require very few washes.

🧶 Caring for Baby Alpaca garments

Follow these simple tips to preserve the exceptional quality of your baby alpaca pieces.

💧

Gentle washing

Hand wash in cold or lukewarm water (max 30°C) with a mild wool detergent or neutral shampoo. Never rub, twist or wring vigorously: handle the fibre gently by pressing softly.

🌬️

Natural drying

After washing, gently press between two towels to remove excess water without twisting. Lay flat to dry on a horizontal surface, away from direct sunlight and any heat source (radiator, tumble dryer). Reshape the garment while damp.

👕

Proper storage

Fold your baby alpaca items rather than hanging them to prevent stretching. Store in a dry, ventilated place, preferably with a lavender or cedar sachet to naturally repel moths.

Minimal care

Thanks to its natural thermoregulating and anti-odour properties, baby alpaca requires very few washes. Simply airing outdoors is often enough to refresh your pieces. Wash only when truly necessary to preserve the fibre.

🪡

Dealing with pilling

If light pilling appears (a natural occurrence during initial wear), gently remove with a cashmere comb or anti-pilling stone. Never pull threads; trim them carefully.

❄️

Winter care

During winter, regularly air your garments outside (in dry weather): natural cold refreshes the fibre and removes odours. This is the ancestral Andean method, particularly effective.

950 silver requires simple care to maintain its exceptional shine over the years.

🧼

Regular cleaning

Clean your jewellery with a soft microfibre cloth after each wear to remove skin oils, sweat or cosmetics. For deeper cleaning, use warm soapy water (neutral soap) and a soft toothbrush for detailed areas.

🛡️

Preventing tarnish

Silver naturally tarnishes on contact with air and sulphur. Wear your jewellery regularly: skin contact provides natural protection. Avoid contact with perfumes, creams, chemicals (pool water, household products) that accelerate tarnishing.

📦

Protective storage

Store each piece separately in a fabric pouch or individual case to prevent scratches. Add chalk or a silica gel sachet to your jewellery box to slow tarnishing. Avoid damp locations (bathroom).

Restoring shine

If silver tarnishes, use a dedicated silver polish or impregnated cloth. For heavily tarnished pieces, an effective home solution: hot water + baking soda + aluminium foil (chemical reaction removes tarnish). Rinse and dry thoroughly.

⚠️

Usage precautions

Remove jewellery before: showering, bathing, swimming, sports, cleaning, gardening or sleeping. Silver is a precious but relatively soft metal: avoid impacts that could deform or scratch your pieces.
